Joe Beirne Scholarship Program
 
Sixteen partial college scholarships of $4,000 each are being offered for the 2024-2025 school year. Winners, selected in a lottery drawing, also will receive second-year scholarships of the same amount contingent upon satisfactory academic accomplishment. Part-time students, less than 12 credits, will receive half of the scholarship monies.
 
Eligible for the awards are CWA members and their spouses, children and grandchildren, including those of retired or deceased members.

The program honors CWA's founding president, who server for more than 30 years. Joe Beirne took great pride in the roles he played in furthering educational opportunity and working for social justice.

The NettWorth Financial Group Donna Castleberry Scholarship Fund awards college scholarships to dependents of union members across the country. Since 2001, more than $280,000 has been donated to fund the education of dozens of promising young men and women. Chances are, you know of a family that has benefited in your hometown. The scholarship program is a fitting tribute to an individual who gave so much to so many.

CWA Local 1104 Scholarship Rules

Local 1104 has a Scholarship Fund for the benefit of its members and their families. The number of scholarships awarded each year is determined by the Executive Board based on the funds available.

There may be only one winner per family per year. An individual may win only once.
 
The 1104 Scholarship Awards are $1k each, to be eligible you must be: An active member of CWA 1104 or the spouse or child of an active member of CWA 1104.
 
The E. Pat Myers Scholarships are $1k each, to be eligible you must be: A retired member of CWA 1104 or the spouse, child, or grandchild of a retired or deceased member of CWA 1104.
 
The Bob Lilja Memorial Scholarship is $2k, to be eligible you must be: An active or retired member of CWA 1104, or the spouse, child, grandchild of an active, retired or deceased member of CWA 1104.
 
Member, for the purpose of these Scholarship Awards means:
  1. Active member: Member in good standing at the time the application is submitted and thereafter.
  2. Retired member: Member in good standing at time of retirement.
  3. Deceased member: Member in good standing at time of death.
The applicant must be either:
  1. 1. A college student, full-time or part-time, working toward anundergraduate or associate degree (matriculating) at an accredited college, university, or trade school.
  2. A high school student or graduate who has been accepted to an accredited college or university or trade school.
Scholarship Fund Application Instructions:
  1. Answer all questions.
  2. Take or mail form with your letter of acceptance or other documentary proof from the college or university where you have been accepted or are presently attending to CWA Local 1104 Headquarters, One Florgate Rd., Farmingdale, NY 11735 between 8 AM and 5 PM weekdays.
  3. Final determination on the eligibility of any application will be made by the Local 1104 Scholarship Committee. The deadline for applications to be received at the Union Office is 5 PM on Friday, July 26, 2024.
  4. The winners will be notified by telephone and then they will be listed on our website. Winners must provide documentation of enrollment with either a schedule or a paid bill from the university.
